The statement "If you give a mouse a cookie..." has become a common place quotation in many homes. The saying generally refers to those who take advantage of kindness, however, in the pest control field we like to look at this statement for exactly what it says. Rodents, insects, etc. are referred to as pests for a reason, they can cause environmental, sanitation, and health concerns, and will take advantage of every opportunity they are presented with.
When dealing with infestations of anything, the availability of food, water, and housing, will continue to bring pests back into your home looking for more, not to mention it will encourage them to invite their friends and family to their new home. As the saying implies, if you give a pest something to eat, they will indeed want something to drink. If both of these items can be found, the pests will be likely to set up a comfortable home right where they first found the food, in your home!
In order to prevent such problems, be sure to keep all food handling areas clean, and avoid the availability of water resources (fix leaky sinks, etc.). When it comes to most pests, cleanliness is vital, though it is crucial for extermination of any sort. Make your home as unwelcoming to unwanted pests as possible, and leave the cookies safe in the cookie jar!
Those in the pest control business, especially those answering calls regarding bed bug infestations, hear the phrase "but I'm not a dirty person!" over and over again. It has been reported numerous times that bed bugs are not attracted to one home or another based upon the cleanliness of the building. Bed bugs do not discriminate based upon social status, race, sex, or cleanliness of the home. Cleanliness has nothing to do with getting bed bugs.
When bed bugs enter your home, however, those living in areas with poor sanitation are apt to endure an infestation longer, as the problem often goes unnoticed for some time. By the point that a pest control expert is called in, the infestation is often out of control and requires extra time and money to solve.
Similarly, those with a cluttered and crowded living space present one of the largest challenges for pest control experts. Having an abundance of clutter or "stuff" around the home gives bed bugs (and other insects) excellent hiding places. Since bed bugs can lay eggs almost anywhere they choose, heavily cluttered areas give then an infinite number of hiding places where they can remain safe from the efforts of pest control.
Bed bug infestations can affect anyone, anywhere. Keeping your home clean and free of clutter may not prevent an infestation, but it will make one east to spot at the first signs, allowing for fast and accurate pest control, and avoiding the waste of time and money. Think You Have Bed Bugs?
Have you ever been speaking with a friend or family member about insects and find that you are suddenly itchy all over? Working in the pest control field, we often encounter situations where customers believe that they have an infestation that in fact does not exist. While this confusion is normally not cause for concern, there are situations in which it can become a serious problem.
Delusional parasitosis, also known as Ekbom Syndrom, is a medically acknowledged form of psychosis that creates a belief that the victim is infested with some type of insect or parasite, though no such infestation is present. Delusions of parasitosis primarily occur in Caucasian middle-aged women, though it has been reported in other groups. The patients often present with debris such as clothing lint or pieces of skin contained in matchboxes, plastic wrap or adhesive tape. The patients believe that these “samples” contain the parasites that they believe they are infested with, however, there are no insects or parasites present. This is often referred to as the “matchbox sign” or the “Saran-wrap sign.”
According to Noah S. Scheinfled, MD, JD, FAAD, classification of delusional parasitosis is very complicated. The condition has been associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. It is considered to be primarily a monosymptomatic hypochondriacal psychosis.
Fortunately, delusional parasitosis can be treated through the use of psychtropic medications. There are occasions in which the sensation of itch is related to an actual disease or substance use rather than psychosis. In these cases, the treatment would involve treatment of the disease, or elimination of the substance causing the sensation. When considering treatment, it is very important that the delusion is not used to the advantage of medication or treatments. Although convincing a patient to take medication may help the condition, telling the patient that the medication will “kill the parasites” is likely to only reinforce the delusion and make the situation worse.

When facing the challenge of bed bugs, many people are choosing to leave their old apartment behind and move on to bigger and better (if not just better). This poses many concerns for both those with bed bugs, and those without. How do you know that the moving company you hire will not move bed bugs in with all of your belongings, and if you do have bed bugs, how do you move without bringing them with you?
At A3 Superior, we have a solution for most moving problems, which also proves to be a solution for other situations - Bed bug thermals, in a truck! Through the processes that we have developed over the past few years, and taking into consideration all of our previous experiences, we have in our arsenal the ability to complete thermal remediation treatments in box trucks, moving trucks, personal vehicles, and more.
The completion of a thermal treatment in a moving truck is a very effective moving tool. While we cannot guarantee that the new apartment is currently free of bed bugs (without an inspection of course), we can ensure that your belongings are. Cost of treating a truck varies greatly based upon location, size of truck, amount of belongings and more. Call 1-977-757-7767 for more information.
When considering a move, why not consider a bed bug truck thermal?
Take a moment to watch this high-speed monarch metamorphosis. A beautiful depiction of a natural miracle!
