When purchasing a new home, or questioning the status of the home you are currently living in, termite damage and infestations often come to mind.  For that reason, we have put together a list of things that can help to keep your home termite free.
1.     Before purchasing a home, have an exterminating company look at the home for signs of termite or other wood destroying organisms.  This positive or negative result can be VERY beneficial.
2.     If the home has termites, be sure you understand the amount of damage to the fullest extent.  Educate yourself on the extermination procedures and costs that the company will be charging, as well as any additional charges for other repairs.  Some pest control companies, such as A3 Superior Pest Control, will warranty their work for a time frame that they will specify for you.
3.     Treat your home if necessary, or if buying a home, determine if the costs of repair and extermination will be worthwhile when all is said and done.
  When trying to prevent termites, keep the following in mind:
4.     Do not stack wood next to your home, or attach wood lattice to the home where a portion is in the dirt, and another connected to your home.  These two situations provide an access or “roadway” to your home for perspective termites.
5.     Maintain a space between the perimeter of your home and any landscaping.  Keep this space at around eighteen inches or more.  This will help to prevent roadways and access points.
6.     Make certain that the foundation of your home is made of concrete, brick, or stone, and not of wood.
7.     Avoid placing built-in planters on your home.  By this we mean a planter that has three sides, and uses your home as a fourth side, and is filled with dirt.  This will create another access point.
8.     Have a reputable and licensed pest control company, such as A3 Superior, perform regular termite inspections, and consider preventative treatments.
9.     Avoid too much water around the perimeter of your home.  This will wash away any pesticides that have been applied.
